Dogs sniff out bedbugs in hotels, apartments in NYC
NEW YORK - Bedbugs beware. Sniffer dogs are on the prowl.
A new company called Advanced K9 Detectives is using Radar the Beagle and Taz the Australian, and four other dogs, to hunt down the bloodsucking vermin in hotels and apartments around New York City.
Last year, the city's Department of Housing, Preservation and Development received nearly 7,000 bedbug complaints.
Radar and Taz were rescued from shelters and trained to sniff out the pesky bugs, who love to nest in mattresses and upholstery.
Advanced K9 does not eradicate the bedbugs, but it returns with the dogs to make sure exterminators did their job effectively.
