Dog Training: Dogs for the Young
Having a family dog is definitely worth it since you can extend your home to a lovable four-legged creature. A dog in your house will mean lots of love and fun but it also equals a good deal of responsibility for its owners. Not only do you have to decide what type of dog to get, what kind of food to give your dog and where to keep your dog, but you also need to train your dog and housebreak him. One of the most common fears when getting a new pup is the dog training process.
Choosing which breed of dog to take in as family dog is usually a difficult decision to make, especially with the unfortunate stories of some that have their family dogs attacking their children. Though there are breeds that are considered as family friendly, some problems will still arise if the dog is allowed to assert itself and was given sufficient time to socialize and get to know each member of the family.
When choosing a family dog, we always have to choose breed of dogs good with children. Some breeds are not very tolerant of children and can be a threat to them yet if you are patient enough to do your homework, you will see that there are dogs good with children.
The most ideal breed for a family dog is the Labrador retriever. This giant of a creature has the gentlest heart of all. A Labrador retriever is very good natured and is not aggressive or hyper. The breed is known for their playfulness, patience and intelligence. The dog has a very mild disposition that makes it popular with the young, the old and even the handicapped. The Labrador retriever loves to please people and is very accommodating. This breed needs a bit of exercise though so they are kept active and boredom is reduced.
Another good breed for a family dog is the Golden retriever. Golden retrievers have similar personalities as the Labrador retrievers. This breed is gentle in nature, are kind, mild mannered, and they love being around people. Similar to the Labrador retriever, this breed works great with the handicapped and the elderly. They are also very friendly in terms of their relationship with other animals. Golden retrievers are very intelligent, which makes them easy to train. This breed is perfect for a child who loves the outdoors since they enjoy playing fetch. Grooming is required for this breed because it has hair.
A beagle is also another dog that is ideal for the family. Snoopy is one famous beagle. Beagles are not aggressive dogs and they have a friendly demeanor about them. The beagle has a wailing bark which makes them very good watch dogs. It is a sight to behold their tails which seem to be wagging nonstop. Beagles get easily bored when left alone to themselves so they are perfect for the smaller children who love all the playing around.
In choosing dogs good with children, remember that not all dogs are alike and you have to be very cautious with having unknown dogs around your child. This is why some breeds are labeled are child friendly because these are proven dogs that will do no harm to your children. That is why choosing from these types of breeds ensures that you will have a loyal and safe family dog.
