I share your concerns about over-vaccination. For many years I have only been having my dogs vaccinated for rabies after they get their initial puppy shots. None of my dogs have ever been sick with anything. All but one of them have lived to an old age and died in their teens. (The other dog died of an auto-immune problem which came on very quickly and couldn't be successfully treated.) When we went on vacation recently I had to have everyone vaccinated with the full array of shots because they would be staying in a boarding kennel and it was required. I was most concerned about my 12-year-old girl. I hated putting her through the vaccinations again at her age. Luckily all of the dogs came through the shots just fine and there were no bad reactions. I'm glad we won't have to deal with vaccinations again anytime soon.
