Dog Health - The One Thing That Makes Dogs Suffer Too!

Welcome to your lesson number 6 of the Cool Dog Newsletter. I hope you have been enjoying all the valuable information we have provided you with.

Dog owners often do not think about their dogs suffering from allergies, but allergies are a very real ailment that affects many dogs. Unfortunately many dog owners do not recognize many of the allergy symptoms that the dogs develop.

My little dog Cody, suffers from severe allergies. He is constantly scratching his ears. Initially we though he had ear infections, and his vet even started him on an antiobiotic, just to see if that would do it, but it didn't. Nothing would.

We tried natural ear remedies, antibiotics, steroids, you named it, we tried it. But Cody would still scratch. We changed his dog food a few times, put him on a hypoallergenic food, Cody would still scratch. We put him on a vegetarian food to avoid meat protein, but Cody would still scratch. To make a long story short, nothing worked. Cody is still suffering from allergies. Thankfully, the severity of his allergies have lessened.

Allergies in dogs are one of the most common problems faced by dog owners. This is truly a cause of concern. It is true that most puppies do not develop allergies in their first year. However, many dogs develop allergies due to their environment. In case, your puppy shows any signs of allergy, you need to take it seriously and look for a treatment. Remember that allergies will become worse if not treated properly on time.

You can spot allergies on your dog’s skin in the shape of rashes, itching, skin eruptions, hair loss, moisture, ear infections etc. When dogs develop allergy, they tend to over wash themselves, rub, chew or scratch. This is a bad sign because they develop skin eruptions via itching.

Dogs develop allergies because they are exposed to pathogen or other materials and affect them later. There are several things that can affect your dog and develop allergies such as grass, shrubs, molds, trees, mites and fleas. Fleas are the most common cause of your dog’s allergy.

You may not even know that your dog has fleas. However, it only takes a little time to develop it. To prevent your dog from possible allergies, you should protect him against fleas. You can purchase some wonderful products that you get from the market to protect your puppy against fleas. These products can be used after a simple blood test.

Remember that fleas can attack from anywhere. Hence you need to be doubly sure that your dog is living in a protective environment. You can find fleas in your garden, dirt on the road, carpet in your drawing room, sand near the beach and even your bedding. Hence, you need to treat your house, pets and yards to eliminate fleas from the environment. The product, you choose to use must be safe for the health of your pets. Make sure that the product you use is recommended by a professional veterinarian.

If your dog has been affected by small skin inflammation during the summer, all you need is to give your dog an oatmeal bath and some antihistamines.

You also need to visit the vet frequently in order to give your dog steroids injections, steroid tablets, diet, flea medicines, special baths and antihistamine. Some dogs suffer from food allergies and need to be given special care.

You can purchase special diets for your pet dog in this case. You also need to give only a particular diet to your dog for sixty days and remove everything else from their diet.

Allergy testing is the optimum method to know the kind of allergy your dog is suffering from. You can also conduct a blood test to know exactly about what they are allergic to.

If you observe the signs of allergy in your dog, you need to take him to a vet as soon as possible. This is the best way to fix the problem. The sooner your detect it and try to fix it, the sooner your dog will get rid of the allergy.

I hope you enjoyed this article. Allergies in my dogs have been real difficult to battle. I hope this information helps you recognize the symptoms of allergy in your dogs, and that you are able to recognize the allergy signs on your dog.

Have a great "Dog Health" Day,
    Dr. Alfonso
